Stanchion 1984
Bronze
92" high
This piece was constructed in clay and plaster and cast into bronze in 1984. The figure is similar to a caryatid, or support figure, as found in the Erechteion figures on the Acropolis. It is cast in an edition of nine. A cast of this piece is in the collection of the Morris Arboretum, Philadelphia, PA. Just across the field from Stanchion are two bronzes by Michael Price. Mike was a devoted friend of Cairns from their meeting in New Orleans in 1968 until Price's death in 2001.
